In the last 35 days, we've been to a doctor, a hospital, and/or medical procedure eight times for Libby. She's been a real trooper!
Every February Libby meets with her cardiologist. She had an echocardiogram and a pace check done. While waiting at the hospital in Pocatello, Libby got to meet a therapy dog named Callie.
Libby's heart function is below normal because of her pacemaker malfunction in 2011 that caused her to go into heart failure, but since that time there has been no change (so that's good news). The battery of her pacemaker has 22 months left, which will require surgery to replace, but that's a few months down the road.
Last year we thought Libby may be having seizures, but her EEG results came back normal. On January 26, Libby had a starring episode that made her fall into the TV stand. She didn't react. Two days later we had another EEG done and those results came back abnormal. She was having "epileptic phenomena from the left occipital temporal head region." These types of seizures can include:
Feelings of deja vu, fear, or anxiety
Problems with memory and depression
Repetitive, automatic movements (such as hand rubbing)
Can be related to vision problems, like involuntary eye movement
Headaches and nausea
We met with a neurologist in Salt Lake who ordered an Ambulatory EEG. Libby will wear this device for 48 hours that will record her brain waves. This will tell us if her seizure activity is happening daily or occasionally. If it's daily, then she'll start medication.
And she's lost her glasses.....
